Stip-HF has invited Oddrun Samdal and Margareth Hagen (rector candidates) to participate in a lunch discussion prior to the Rector Elections 2021. The discussion will be held in English and over Zoom on Wednesday, March 10th, 13.00 – 14.00. This is an event for all PhDs at University of Bergen and we hope that many of you will find time to join us.

This is an opportunity to get to know the rector candidates and their teams, learn about their positions on issues concerning specifically PhD candidates. If you have any questions for both teams, please submit them here in advance and/or put them in the chat during the discussion. We will select, moderate and ask the questions to the candidates on your behalf.

Preliminary program: 

• Each candidate gets 3 minutes to present themselves and their program (Team Samdal, Team Hagen)
• Discussion about the questions posed in advance (below)
• Questions from the audience (Stip-HF will ask some of the questions from the pre-submitted questions and those put in the chat)
• Closing remarks from the candidates

Questions: 

• There is a suggestion in NOU 2020: 3 Ny lov om universiteter og høyskoler to reduce the number of possible postdoctoral employment periods to one. What is your/your team’s position on this matter?
• UiB has had in the last 20 years disproportionate growth in the number of full-time employees vs. temporary employees (postdoctors, researchers etc.). How are you planning to deal with this issue?
• Many PhD candidates experience severe delays of their research work due to the corona crisis. Some examples are e.g. postponed data collection, very few possibilities for participating in conferences or difficulties with planning and performing duty work. What will you/your team do to improve the PhD candidates’ situation?
